Josephine’s doing well!

February 19, 2009 at 11:08 pm (Baby)

So, I finally went to the doctor, and it looks like Jo’s doing fine. Her heartbeat is strong and normal. My measurements were all normal. I took the glucose test today (finally). Less than 6 weeks until the due date! Craziness. There aren’t any tours of the hospital available until March 19th, but I’m looking forward to it.

Coraline Review… and More Important Stuff Too…

February 15, 2009 at 10:15 pm (My Priceless Opinion, Uncategorized)

Let’s do more important stuff first, eh?

#1. After months of stressing in the nightmarish land of health insurance, I am officially covered by Medicaid! I have a new doctor and a doctor’s appointment on Wednesday. I’m so excited because I haven’t been to the doctor since November (scary), and I’m 34 weeks along now.

#2. I went to the Holocaust Museum with Nat’s mom and sister a week or so ago. It was amazing. I cannot believe those things really happened. What a lesson in gratitude. I had been whining for a week about a $50 ticket I got in DC, and when I went to the museum I felt so embarrassed that that was my biggest problem, and that I had let it consume me so. If someone came to take Nat away from me, I’d be really tempted to kick their butt even if they had a gun. Yes, I probably wouldn’t have lasted long. Crazy stuff.

#3. Nat’s ankle is finally getting better. It’s been weeks of barely walking, and now he can finally get around by just limping very sadly (rather than staying horizontal 99% of the time or using a cane or crutches). He likes the cane though. He took it with him to teach his class so he could point at the board with it and stuff.

Okay, Coraline. As with all Tim Burton-y movies, this one is extremely creative and very interesting. The story is good, the visuals are incredible, but I’m afraid it was a little too dark for me. Nat loved it of course. I had issues with Corpse Bride too, though (another one Nat loved)… although the story in Coraline is quite a bit better I thought. It’s not a kids movie, but there were moments where it felt like it was trying to be one. Too creepy though. It is in 3-D, which is cool, but is it cool enough to have to pay more? I don’t know. Polar Express was awesome in 3-D, but I don’t know how much cooler it made Coraline.

Benjamin Button Review

February 9, 2009 at 2:47 am (My Priceless Opinion)

Holy moly, that movie is long. It had some very interesting things about it, and I have to admit I really enjoyed watching how the characters changed ages. It was a little lacking in plot, and the main character made some decisions that made me kind of hate him, but I think I enjoyed it overall. Brad Pitt still has some babe left in him… despite his exponential increase in children in the last few years. Cate Blanchett was good. It kind of felt like being read a bedtime story… a really long one.

This movie is entertaining and intense. It’s not the best movie in the world, but I enjoyed watching it. Liam is one tough dude in it. I definitely recommend it if you’re feeling like watching something you don’t have to think real hard about, and you just want to be taken for an interesting ride for a couple hours. The writing and the story are pretty good, as is the acting.
